this is not my beautiful house

Recap

Ok so we have Daphne who is the owner of Clutterbucks Antiques, one of those huge and creaky and wonderful old joints we all love. But she’s crooked. She pretends to be a personal organizer and people hire her to help them get rid of stuff and she pretends to donate everything to their charity of choice but instead she takes it all to her store and sells it.

Meet Jane, her current victim, mother to son Kreskin who has full-blown ESP. Jane is newly single and has to downsize. She also has to get a job and that’s where Michool comes in. He hires her but not for the job she pretended to be qualified for. No. He hires to write a blog for his company, Warrior Waze, a laser-quest like business but for 19+. Guns and alcohol. What could go wrong.

As Jane’s personal organizer, Daphne coaches her on how not to go shopping, gives her a mantra, and tells her to call if she needs support. I guess Daphne is her sponsor.

So after one of Jane’s interviews, she’s walking along Kingston Road and is dying to go into this big beautiful old antique store called Clutterbucks. She calls her sponsor just as she goes into the store and a phone rings in the store and there’s Daphne.

So she’s busted and Jane is outraged and is going to call the cops but Daphne offers her a partnership instead which she accepts. So they are now 50-50 partners. Daphne the crook and Jane the decidedly not-crook. Imagine that…

Side stories are:

Avo is Daphne’s driver. He is from Yemen. He has a girlfriend, Gracief, but has been summoned home by his parents who have arranged a marriage for him which he will honour.

Gracief recently escaped from “Room”

Greybird is the garbage collector who “rescues” discarded items and sells them to Daphne to fund the better world he is building. Literally.

Kreskin, Jane’s son, is Clutterbucks resident busker. He is also a writer and the voice of his generation. His manuscript is currently ready for pick up and Vanity Long, publisher, is on her way.

Normal” who works next door to Clutterbucks and has a crush on Kreskin.

Simple Simon who works across the street from Clutterbucks and has a crush on Kreskin.

Clutterbucks Landlord, Mr. Sedesky, who just might be planning something behind Daphne’s back. Did I mention that Michool is currently looking for a nice big space for his Warrior Waze game?

Forgot this one: Daphne lives with her mother, Harriet, who suffers from dementia and the only way Daphne can get her mother back is to make her laugh. “Oh Daphne,” Harriet says. “You make me feel like my old self again.” Which is why Daphne is pursuing a career in stand-up comedy.

Episode 5 Recap:
Jane sabotages the sale of her house with an elaborate, stinky plan but all she had to do was ask Daphne, who admires Jane’s deviousness, but calls the real estate agent and orders a three month stay. Gracief tells her story. Jane was not wrong when she joked about Gracief having recently escaped from “room”. She is now Grace and it’s an interesting bit there about how she was Gracief in the first place but this is an outline after all and I can’t get into all the interesting little stuff. Kreskin’s manuscript gets picked up by a very prominent publisher. Matthew asks Kreskin for money and when he comes to meet Kristin at Clutterbucks he sees Vanity Long, the publisher’s rep and asks “who is THAT??!!??” Simple Simon has a way of eavesdropping on Kristin, Daphne’s podcast interview is coming up and Avo leaves to go back to Yemen for his arranged marriage. But first he takes an Uber (Michool moonlights as an Uber driver) to a small house in North York, a house that Grace knows too well. He drops a suitcase off, hops back into the cab and goes to the airport. On the plane he reaches into his shoe and presses a button. From his window seat he sees the explosion clearly.

EPISODE 6

In which the fire in North York is all over the news (as is Michool); Grace starts living without fear; Daphne is great on the Funny Business podcast; Kreskin’s novel is optioned; Harriet wanders; We meet Mr. Jet, formerly Miss Georgette, who may become Avo’s replacement; Frustrated writer Simple Simon’s eavesdropping greatly improves his game; Time (and more) flies when Daphne finds Clutterbucks’ 100-year lease; Kreskin tells Grace a heartbreaking truth: Uncle wasn’t in the house when it exploded.

EPISODE 7

In which Grace and Kreskin become rafter-mates; Daphne offers Mr. Jet Avo’s old job; Kreskin and his OG chauffeur begin a book-signing tour; Simple Simon pens a letter of inquiry to Miss Vanity Long touting “his” new novel; Sedesky and Michool are way ahead of Daphne; Rig and Mortis have moved in; Jane understands Warrior Waze and is deeply committed to its success; Grace shares her biggest secret of all but Kreskin points out the greater truth

Ok so that’s enough I think to get you up to speed although I highly recommend you start from the beginning because there’s other little bits that are so worth reading and What? You’re short on time?
